Quercus Emancipation was commissioned by Wave Hill for the 2003 exhibition, Hybrids. Inspiration came from the architectural detailing inside and outside the building and its relation to nature. The sculptures in this installation are surfaced with molded ornamentation from the room in which they exist. The large acorn-head is directed toward a window where small acorn-heads in earth tones are about to escape to the gigantic oak tree (Quercus rubra) with its “real” acorns visible through the window.
